Excerpts:
Wilson opened the season looking like he was ready to make more incremental improvements as an Angel. Through two months, he had a 3.05 ERA in 11 starts with a strikeout rate that would’ve been his best as a starter and a sub-9% BB rate which would’ve been his best mark with the Angels. Things turned in June and he wound up with four duds in his six starts as righties starts to torch him. The trouble continued into July, but lasted just two starts before he hit the DL with an ankle injury. And he didn’t look much better when he first returned, either. In 10 starts from June 3rd to August 7th, he had a 7.71 ERA in 46.7 IP. He still has 45 Ks in that span, but just a 1.6 K:BB ratio.

Gray has followed up his brilliant 2013 debut with a strong first full season in the bigs. In fact, he was looking quite ace-like for the majority of the season with a 2.59 ERA through August 1st, but a bit of a rough spell in his last four starts has sent his ERA northward to an even 3.00 thanks to a 5.40 ERA in those starts. Walks have been a small issue most of the season, but it’s been exacerbated during this recent run of work because his strikeout rate has tumbled from 7.9 in those first 22 starts to just 5.4 in his last four outings.
